New Registry of Motor Vehicles Reminder Service Available
A new, first of its kind, License/Mass ID Renewal Notification Service is now available to RMV customers. The RMV Reminder Service will notify customers that their licenses/MA IDs are due to be renewed. Customers can join this service free of charge and decide how they want to be notified. They can select one of the following methods:

Phone
Text Message

RMV Reminder Service Details:

Customers must sign up for the service at least 45 days prior to the expiration of their driver's license or MA ID.
Customers will receive an electronic message by the method of their choosing at least 30 days before the expiration date.
Customers will be informed as to whether they can renew their license or MA ID online, or must visit a branch.
Customers will also be notified if their license is in non-renew status because of an outstanding parking ticket, or excise bill. This notice will indicate that the issue must be cleared before they can renew. The RMV will continue to send non-renewal letters to license customers.
The customer’s license must be in good standing at the time renewal notices are sent. A reminder notice will not be sent if a license has been suspended or revoked.
The notification service includes a strict privacy policy to protect the information and data customers provide to the RMV.

This service is made possible through a partnership with Sendza, a company that provides secure notification services. The reminder notices will be sponsored, which enables the RMV to provide this service free of charge. The implementation of this service will provide other important benefits including:

Laying the groundwork for future notification services.
Providing significant savings in postal costs while still providing renewal notifications.
Improving customer service and customer relations.

Pistol Permit, Gun Dealership Permit, and Sex Offender Registration

The Gill Police Department holds Pistol Permit, Gun Dealership Permit, and Sex Offender Registration during Officer Schreiver's regular hours (Thursdays 5-7 p.m.), though other times may be arranged. To make an appointment, or for futher information, please leave a message at 413-863-9398.

Items needed for a NEW permit application
For a Class A, License to Carry Permit:

Current certification for firearms safety course (hunter safety course alone is not acceptable)
$100 check made payable to "Town of Gill"
Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)
Must be at least 18 years of age, or 16 years of age with parental consent form, at time of application.

For a Class C, Firearms Identification Card:

Current certification of either the firearms sfaety course or the hunter safety course
$100 check made payable to "Town of Gill"
Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)
Must be at least 18 years of age, or 16 years of age with parental consent form, at time of application.

Items needed for a RENEWAL application
For a Class A, License to Carry Permit:

$100 check made payable to "Town of Gill" (free for persons over 70)
Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)

For a Class C, Firearms Identification Card:

$100 check made payable to "Town of Gill" (free for persons over 70)
Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)

For renewals, please watch your renewal date. The state is not sending everyone renewal notices anymore. When applying for a renewal, unless you are 70 years of age or older, you are not able to apply for your permit more than 30 days before its current expiration date. if you do, you will lose one year off of your renewed permit. If you apply within that window and before your premit expires, youa re grnated an additional 90-day extension while your permit is in process.
